**For songwriters who want to explore the fundamental principles of songwriting.**

This class will explore some of the universally shared songwriting techniques that span across genres within the topics of form, lyrics, rhyme scheme, melody, chord progressions, rhythm, and repetition.

By studying a wide variety of great songwriters throughout history as well as contemporary writers, we’ll analyze the commonalities in their songwriting through transcription and analysis and intentionally integrate these techniques into our own songwriting practice through focused exercises – all in service of getting us closer to developing our individual voice as songwriters.

Laura Jean Anderson, born in Olympia, Washington and now residing in Brooklyn, is a multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, producer & music educator. She has garnered support from NPR, Bernie Sanders, Rolling Stone, Noisey, Salon, Fader, KCRW amongst others, proclaiming her music as a “Timeless sound…a mysterious conception that sounds as it’s from another era.”
