Here's a quote from Hannah on this course...
“I believe that songwriting, or rather singing a song, is a unique act of participation with each other and the universe. Squishing and stretching words into melodies and rhythms is unlike other forms of communication like say, writing a letter or having a conversation because it invites everyone to say what i'm saying, to sing-a-long. Or dance! or just listen too, yes. The meanings are multiple and require no reply, just participate for the duration. I like this about songs. And this belief motivates my songwriting. To me, this participation with each other is sublime! and is the purpose of writing a song and singing it.
Thus! I smash as much meaning as I can into every word, melody, rhythm, breath, every piece of the song in order to achieve critical mass and suck y'all in to the gravitational pull (or push) of the song with me. My hope is that we can feel held together through the song, and the song becomes our song. I think songs do this naturally all on their own, but it's nice to go into it knowing what you're after.
In this course we will explore several ways that I load up a song with meaning and mass to give it that gravity tug, that “hold us together” ability. We will pick apart our example song "Hannah Sun" in each lesson. We will see if the song can go into orbit and withstand the spinning & seasons.” - Hannah
This course also includes songwriting prompts from Hannah such as "Smash 1: Orbit", "Lyrics Core", "Rhythming Around the Sun Together", and "Fun Core".
