All access to lecture recordings, songwriting prompts and all course materials for Courtney Marie Andrews's songwriting workshop taught in December 2021. By purchasing this past course, you're able to watch Courtney's lectures and go about the course at your own pace!

Courtney's lectures cover the following topics and themes:

    1. How utilizing “title writing” can act as a container to focus our creative energy and amplify our storytelling by creating a focal point within a song, as well as techniques on how we can live with heightened awareness to find compelling titles in everyday conversation.
    2. Phrasing and cadence. We’ll be taking a microscopic look at the impact that cadence and phrasing can have on the character of a song as a whole and its component sections as well as providing tools for discovering your own personal phrasing and cadence strengths.
    3. How using pre-existing texts can act as a starting point for lyrical ideas and as a jumping off point for telling stories that reach beyond your own personal experience.
    4. Using stream of consciousness techniques as a way to reinvigorate our creativity and allow us to write from a place free of judgement and self criticism.

This course also includes songwriting prompts from Courtney such as "Responding to text", "Title Writing", "Repetition", and "Stream of consciousness."

    -- Testimonials from December 2021 students --

" Thank you so so so much - it was really inspiring to hear you speak about your approach to songwriting + general approach to life and how you view the world. It's reminded me to give more attention to the world + not critique myself before I've really had time to develop any of my songs. Also has highlighted that the best way to write a song is just to WRITE A SONG. :)"

" Your teachings put a lot of your songwriting into perspective--and how great it is to dive into a sea of them for yourself and other songwriters. I greatly admire the honesty, bravery, emotionality, and beauty of your songs and they have added incredible value to many of my days. I feel like your kind of singing is the kind that also teaches people how to sing, as well as a lens to see a world. Your lessons were simple but carried so much weight, I feel like the ideas you presented and the boundaries SoS gave really challenged me to tap into the well that is always there, but needs to be tapped into. Thank you so much!"

Q: What musical experience is required to understand the material in this course?

A: People across all musical levels will be able to gain something from the course. However, it will be helpful to be comfortable playing a few basic chords on any instrument of your choice in order to complete the songwriting prompts.

Q: What if I’ve never written a song before? Can I still participate in this workshop?

A: Yes! As with any new skill, just starting is usually the hardest part. This workshop will provide the structure and accountability we all need to get started and follow through, for beginners and old guard writers alike.

Q: What is different about watching this past course versus participating while the workshop is run live?

A: By purchasing this course, you'll have access to the same resources as the students who took the course while it was running other than the live songshares.
