**For beginner songwriters who want to explore the fundamental principles of songwriting.**

This class will explore some of the universally shared songwriting techniques that span across genres within the topics of form, lyrics, rhyme scheme, melodic development, harmonic progressions, rhythm, and repetition.

By studying a wide variety of great songwriters throughout history (such as Carole King, Sly Stone, Dolly Parton, and Burt Bacharach), we’ll analyze the commonalities in their songwriting through transcription and analysis and make an intentional effort to integrate these techniques into our own songwriting practice through focused exercises – all in service of getting us closer to developing our individual voice as songwriters.
