There is perhaps no better way to improve on guitar than practicing and performing music for solo guitar. Whether you are a songwriter or purely an instrumentalist, students will leave this class with boosted technical proficiency and a deeper understanding of fretboard music theory and harmony.
We will learn full pieces from guitar masters past and present. We will also employ fretboard theory to create original chord-melodies. Weekly recording prompts and in-class discussions create an encouraging and constructive community environment.
Topics covered:
- Learn solo guitar repertoire from classic works to hidden gems to modern favorites
- Creating chord-melodies using a given melody
- Practice strategies and proper technique
- Artistry, dynamics, and articulation
- Practical theory and counterpoint for the fretboard
Prerequisites:
- Open position chords
- Familiarity with reading TABS
- Basic music theory knowledge (i.e. you know where the half steps are in a major scale and how to build triads)
