Intro to Logic Pro

Calling all woodland creatures!! Have you been curious about learning to record... but maybe feeling a little hesitant, confused, or intimidated about where to begin? This class is for you!!

Intro to Logic Pro will take you from being afraid to open your computer to feeling confident in your ability to use Logic Pro as a tool in realizing your creative vision.

This class takes a thoughtful path through the fundamentals of recording such as signal flow, gain staging, recording audio, working with drum machines, editing MIDI, EQ, and compression, and provides thoughtful HW assignments that encourage self-exploration, experimentation, and learning through play as a way of deepening our understanding of the material.

Taught in a supportive group learning environment with an emphasis on class participation and teacher + student interaction, this is a limited enrollment class (capped at 25 students).

Sami Perez is a musician, producer, engineer and college professor based in Los Angeles. She was raised in San Francisco where she played in projects such as The She’s, Sonny and the Sunsets and Kelley Stoltz. She started engineering at Women’s Audio Mission, a bay area non-profit that helps women and non-binary engineers break into the field. Being in an all girl band from an early age and working with Women’s Audio Mission as a young female producer, Sami grew to hold strong values of feminine representation in a predominantly male field. She then worked at the all analog studio Tiny Telephone for over six years, where she learned how to record onto 24 track tape machines and mix through consoles like their Neve 8068. Having trained in an all analog environment, Sami built her creative philosophies around analog workflow. Learning how to create communication between instruments and gear without digital aid plays a huge role in her creative decisions. In 2019, Sami moved to Los Angeles and began touring with acts such as Cherry Glazerr, Jerry Paper and continues with her project, Harry the Nightgown. She and her collaborators Spencer Hartling and Danielle Goldsmith built Wiggle World, a studio in Altadena, where she currently works out of. She also started her teaching career at CalArts where she teaches production and recording within the Experimental Pop program.
