Taught by Jake Sucher.
In Fingerpicking for Folk Guitar, we will explore the rich and diverse world of folk music past and present. Rather than hone in on one specific style, we will focus on a variety of picking-patterns and rhythmic feels, as well as proper fingerpicking technique. This course is perfect for students looking to break out of basic chord strumming, as well as songwriters looking to elevate their guitar arrangements. Weekly recording prompts and in-class discussions give students the benefit of participating in a community of avid guitarists.
Topics covered:
- Proper fingerpicking technique
- Common picking patterns to apply to any song
- Identifying common time signatures and rhythmic feels
- Expanding chord vocabulary
- Creating melody within chord shapes
- Learning classic folk repertoire
